BlueRobotics – USV & ROV2

Remote Operated Vehicle (BlueROV2)

BlueROV2

The Blue Robotics BlueROV2 is the world’s most affordable high-performance underwater ROV. With six- and eight-thruster configurations, a number of available accessories, and open source software, it has an unprecedented level of performance, flexibility, and expandability. With several thousand units out in the field, the BlueROV2 is one of the most popular underwater drones on the market!

The BlueROV2 comes partially assembled and requires 6-8 hours of user assembly to complete. During the assembly process, you learn how all of the components of the system work and fit together and it leaves you with the knowledge needed to make upgrades and improvements in the future!

            1.  ECHO Multibeam Imaging Sonar:

Key features include:

  • 120 Degree FOV.
  • Operates at dual frequencies: 700 kHz (short range, up to 30m) and 400 kHz (long range, up to 100m).
  • Full image updates at once (faster scan rate than mechanical scanning sonars).
  • Built-in web interface, eliminating the need for software installation.
  • Clean user controls with sliders, keyboard shortcuts, and an open communication API.
  • For Navigation, Inspection, and Object Detection.

            2. Low-Light HD USB Camera:

Key features include

This Low-Light HD USB Camera is ideally suited to use underwater with excellent low-light performance, good color handling, and onboard video compression. A specially-chosen wide-angle, low distortion lens provides excellent picture quality on the ROV, and a built-in microphone* allows listening to sounds of the deep, and your vehicle.

Based on the Sony IMX322/323 sensor, this camera uses a large sensor (1/2.9″) and a relatively low pixel count (2MP, 1080p), meaning that the physical pixel size is large to allow maximum light sensitivity. We’ve had this camera down at 300m depth, where we could see subtle bioluminescent creatures in the darkness!

The camera also has an onboard H.264 compression chip so that all of the video compression is done onboard and doesn’t place much load on the main computer. That also means that we’ll be able to support multiple cameras in the future for alternate views.

This camera is fully supported in ArduSub. Includes an 8″ USB cable with JST-PH connector.

The camera’s PCB is 32 x 32mm and works well with our Camera Tilt System.

            3. Newton Subsea Gripper:

Key features include:

The Newton Subsea Gripper is a single function manipulator for the BlueROV2 and other subsea vehicles. It’s the result of several years of effort starting with a senior project in 2016 and evolving into the current design over several iterations. Each element was carefully designed and combined to create an awesome ROV tool.

The gripper has jaws that open to grab objects up to 2.44″ or 6.2cm in diameter. The plastic jaws are mounted with custom aluminum screws to create a corrosion resistant mechanism that doesn’t need any lubrication. The jaws are driven by a linear actuator that uses a geared brushed motor and lead screw. The main body is air-filled and sealed with O-rings. We’ve spent a lot of time testing it at pressure and it’s rated to 300m depth with plenty of safety factor.

BlueRobotics Unmanned Surface Vehicle BlueBoat

BlueBoat

The BlueBoat was born from a desire to make uncrewed surface vessels just as easy to get started with as ROVs and drones. Even with many options on the market, we saw a lot of room for improvement. We started from a clean sheet and designed the vehicle that we wanted to have ourselves, then worked tirelessly to perfect it and make it as affordable as possible. The result is the BlueBoat.

The BlueBoat is the planet’s most affordable surface vessel for hydrographic surveys, robotic systems development, and scientific missions. Its weedless hull and propeller design, rugged construction, and compact transport size make it reliable and convenient to use, while its flexible electronics architecture, ample payload mounting areas, and open-source BlueOS software system make it an ideal platform for integration of sonars and other sensors.

The BlueBoat exists for you to build on top of and is easily and endlessly expandable.
